Learning how to dress if you’re short is a life skill that takes a while to master. As someone who’s under 5’5″, I’ve regularly found myself in fitting rooms trying on laughably long jeans or jackets! If you’re nodding along in empathy, then rest assured that I feel your pain. But it doesn’t have to be this way, and it doesn’t mean you have to forgo all the latest trends. While I think we should all embrace whatever size, shape or height we are, sometimes appearing and feeling a little taller helps me with being more confident.

Now as we all know, anything high-waisted is a must when it comes to dressing if you’re short. I own a ton of high waisted black leggings and jeans, it makes my legs look taller and goes well with crop tops. For bonus, it will also help you hide some tummy fat! If you are on the hunt for a pair of trousers that will slot into both your working and weekend wardrobes, and lengthen your legs at the same time, I would highly recommend the wide leg. While wide leg trousers are certainly nothing new, this XXL silhouette has been a micro-trend this season.

Pro Tip: Vertical stripes give an illusion of length and horizontal stripes of width.

For today’s outfit I am wearing this co-ordinated set of an off shoulder crop top and these wide leg pants. This season wide strides have become more flattering than ever before, thanks to a higher waistband your legs look twice as long and the volume is more evenly balanced out. Win!  If you’re anything like me and are thinking of your next holiday wardrobe already, a sweeping, breezy trouser is the ultimate summer-in-the-city shape.
